Worst case scenario,no striker purchase
or is it....

Looks like Maxi Gomez is staying in Spain.
Arnautovic gone and Hernandez not the player he thinks he is or was.

How should we line up ?
I would of thought with the amount of attacking midfielders we have a false 9 type system would be worked on.

Fabianski

Fredricks Diop Balbuena Cresswell
Rice
Noble Fornals
Anderson Antonio Yarmelenko

subs: Reid,Wilshire,Silva,Diangana,Johnson,Roberto,Lanzini

Or

Fabianski

Fredricks Diop Balbuena Cresswell
Rice
Lanzni Wilshire
Anderson Yaremlenko Fornals

subs:Roberto,Noble,Antonio,Silva,Reid,Masuaku,Snodgrass

I quite the look of both teams, no sulky Hernandez or Arnautovic

I thought Anderson usually plays on the left.

And if I remember rightly Yarmelenko was right sided.

Re: Worst case scenario,no striker purchase
It would be fucking ridiculous to go into the season with no real striker aside from Hernandez, and I'd really REALLY question the sanity of the management team if that happened. If it comes down to it and we need to sign someone in an emergency, almost ANYBODY* is better than not having one at all. We'll be looking at bottom half of the table and players wanting to leave the club.

False 9 is something you might use in an injury crisis, not as your actual plan A unless you're mental or Barcelona.

Not Hugill- better than him, obviously.

Yep, both suggested frontlines look viable, and there are other possibilities to try too. I don't think it's a big problem, and of course the club will likely bring another striking option in anyway. I'm much more worried about the lightweight midfields suggested.

I agree, Alex V

Although, i still think we will bring in 2 strikers.

I have this romantic idea that worst case, even if we don't sign another DM, Pellegrini will get a tune out of Sanchez and.....wait for it......turn Reece Oxford into a DM. I know, unlikely but let's dream!

I like the look of Conor Coventry, too as a DM - although he needs to bulk up a bit , he has the build of 15 year old.

Antonio will be a handful, strong, brave, fast, good in the air and likes to have a pop at shooting.

Re: Worst case scenario,no striker purchase
Even if Hugill comes back (inexplicably), Pea stays and we chuck the oft-misfiring Antonio up top as an option, we still need ONE reliable scorer. With the wages released, it should be absolutely easy!

However: the West Ham Way will no doubt intervene.

Get down the gym, Carlton!

What's the panic, as we type these thoughts our illustrious leaders are already getting the cheque book out and scouring the world for a top class striker, no expense to be spared.

Absolute WORST CASE we chuck Bournemouth £40m and get Wilson. I think that’s our back up plan.

Hugill just needs to be coached by Carlton, to reveal his inner Pele.

Probably

Re: Worst case scenario,no striker purchase
Is Hernandez not being the player he thinks he is a good enough reason to not even put him in the squad?

There’s no way we’d sell Hernandez if we didn’t get anyone else in so worst case scenario we’ve still got Hernandez and he will will be involved.

Re: Worst case scenario,no striker purchase
I thought Hernandez was leaving a few weeks ago?

I’d have shot of him and Arnie, and with Carroll leaving that makes way for two decent strikers, but we probably don’t have the money for two quality strikers, and we would struggle to attract them.

Re: Worst case scenario,no striker purchase
I don't think it's a coincidence that Lukas Perez was the first player another club hoovered up this summer.

Watching him on the park making intelligent runs, making space for himself and his finishing always made me think he was criminally underused. I actually think he's better than Hernandez, for us anyway.

This thread is a bit pointless though as there's no way we're not going to get at least one striker in.

Re: Worst case scenario,no striker purchase
Just stick Yarmolenko in the middle. He's a bit too predictable on the wing anyway. He could turn out to be another Arnautovic (before he went off the boil).
